The Strip. Bright lights. Large crowds.

The desert, scorching summer heat and bustling epicenters that are packed with visitors, from nearby and afar, every day of the year.

The mountains.

The mountains of Idaho. Of Montana. Of Wyoming and Utah.

Often quiet places. Secluded places.

For perspective, most of the tiny towns in these places each have fewer inhabitants than can fit in Caesars Palace.

Yet these places have a sense of community. They're interwoven with crystal-clear rivers and evergreens, soaring mountains and prairies that stretch as far as the eye can see. People here are proud of who they are.

Big Sky Country they call it, although the communities themselves are small enough that nearly everybody knows everybody.

Dan MarrazzaSun, 20 Aug 2017 00:16:29 +0000ESPN Features #VGKRoadTriphttps://www.nhl.com/goldenknights/news/espn-features-vgkroadtrip/c-290711696

As the Golden Knights bus tears its way south down I-15 in Utah late this Saturday afternoon, the end of the #VGKRoadTrip is in sight.

Six days, six states.

Several thousand miles.

Four events for our new franchise, meant to further Chairman/CEO Bill Foley's plan to extend the Golden Knights' footprint beyond Las Vegas and into the Rocky Mountains.

As the Golden Knights' bus nears the final stretch before home, in a week where our players shook hands, our coaches took selfies with kids and we saw the Golden Knights logo emblazoned across the chests of locals throughout the western United States, it feels like it was a successful week.

But in life, sometimes, we're sometimes caught in our own world.

What feels like a breakthrough to us may be perceived otherwise by outsiders. And then GM George McPhee put all those questions to rest with one direct text: "Next year, we're all going."

Planning a road trip into unknown communities has its risks. How will it all come together? Will people come out? What will the response be? It came off without a hitch and if the smiles of the folks in Coeur D'Alene, Whitefish, Bozeman and Salt Lake City are an indicator - it had its intended impact. The Golden Knights wanted to reach out and meet people and invite them to be part of the experience. They responded.

Gary LawlessSat, 19 Aug 2017 20:44:40 +0000Hockey In Bozeman, Montana Boosted By #VGKRoadTriphttps://www.nhl.com/goldenknights/news/hockey-in-bozeman-montana-boosted-by-vgkroadtrip/c-290708712

As the Director of Development for the Gallatin Ice Foundation, Anna Greenberg wakes up every morning and follows a routine.

It starts with waking up and driving to her Bozeman, Montana office. Although she starts each day with her patented positive attitude, her routine often becomes dominated by work she puts toward the Ice Barn, her town's primary ice skating facility.

And while this is largely a labor of love and source of pride for Greenberg, the maintenance the Ice Barn requires occasionally produces difficulties.

These difficulties are often driven by the challenge of acquiring the private funding that's needed to keep the facility alive and functional.

Yes, Bozeman features one of the more rabid hockey communities in the state of Montana, a fact that Greenberg cites as a reason she loves her job. This building, however, has only one ice sheet.

Ice is only laid down for part of the year here, too.

Dan MarrazzaSat, 19 Aug 2017 01:03:43 +0000Team Statement On #VGKRoadTrip Stop in Bozeman, Montanahttps://www.nhl.com/goldenknights/news/team-statement-on-vgkroadtrip-stop-in-bozeman-montana/c-290701602

The Vegas Golden Knights announced today, August 17, that defenseman Nate Schmidt will not be able to attend Friday's street hockey clinic appearance in Bozeman, MT due to an ankle injury that occurred during his off-season training on Thursday.
