During the later stages of his rehabilitation he began to have increasing discomfort that deterred his training process for the upcoming 2017-18 season. After notifying our medical staff he was referred to specialists, who after trying more conservative measures determined that it was in Shane's best interest to have surgery. He has since had the surgery, is doing well and is expected to return to full activity in 4-6 months.

New York Islanders PRMon, 14 Aug 2017 19:20:16 +0000Catching Up With Calvin de Haanhttps://www.nhl.com/islanders/news/catching-up-with-calvin-de-haan/c-290641394

Calvin de Haan blocks enough shots during the season that he'd prefer if projectiles didn't come his way over the summer.

So standing in front of a pitching machine and taking baseballs off the chest - a la Happy Gilmore - isn't a part of his offseason training, even for the team's best shot-blocker.

"There's nothing worse than getting hit with a puck in Shinny," de Haan said. Most people are drawn to his legs, which are huge and project a sense of power in his swing.
